Make A Pocket Sketch Journal: Fill It With Your Story

Workshop description

We’ll start by making a folded pocket sketch journal, then cut and fold multi-media paper into a concertina insert. A surprisingly quick task. Practical and portable, and great for travel. Then we’ll head out on a walking sketch tour of the neighborhood farmer’s market. On the way, we’ll start creating sketches and get useful prompts to keep things flowing. You’ll learn how to transition from one panel to the next and get tips on how to add layers to your sketches and bring your story to life. Through sketches, overheard conversations and collected ephemera you’ll build a linear visual story of your day in Edmonds.

Supplies

  • Bring a small portable sketch kit: watercolor travel set, waterbrush, paper towel, your preferred sketching implement: pen with waterproof ink, pencil/colored pencils) glue stick, small scissors. Unless necessary, you don’t need to carry around a stool. A bandana makes a good cover for sitting on a dirty curb. Portability is key.
  • Cover paper and multi-media paper to make the pocket sketch journal will be supplied.
