Workshop Request Window
This year we are implementing a new process for workshops registration.
Because workshops are small (limited to 15 participants) and some fill very quickly, we want to avoid the stress of a race-to-click workshop registration. Instead, we are opening a request window between now and March 14.
Here’s how it works:
- During this request window, please submit your top workshop choice (and a backup) for the morning block and the afternoon block using the Workshop Request Form.
- If a workshop has more than 15 requests, names will be selected at random after the window closes. If a workshop does not fill, everyone who requested it will be enrolled.
- After assignments are made, you’ll receive an email confirmation and payment link. Payment must be received within 48 hours of when the email confirmation is sent or your spot will be released. It’s very important to watch your email carefully starting March 15. The price per workshop is $175.
- After the request window closes and assignments have been made, workshops with open spots will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Our goal is to give everyone an equal opportunity to attend a workshop while keeping the process calm and thoughtful.
We hope the approach to workshops registration and ticket sales this year feels fair, transparent and in keeping with the inclusive and community-minded spirit of Sketcher Fest.
Feel free to reply to this thread with any questions related to workshops registration.
Hi Gabi, do you know when emails are going out? Don’t want to miss it!
I know you are very busy, just checking: I submitted the request before March 14th. Today is March 16th. I did not receive an email with assignments yesterday. Did emails not go out yet? I am asking here because I want to make sure it didn't end up in some spam folder or something.
Thanks!
Hi everyone!
Confirmation emails started going out yesterday and will hopefully be all sent out by the end of today. Stay tuned!
G.
Will emails be sent to those who don’t get into any workshops, as well as those who do? It would be good to know our status either way. Thanks, Gabi!
@floryedit Hi! Yes, everyone who submitted a request will receive a notification if the email address they typed in the form was not misspelled. Thanks for your patience!
I checked this afternoon and I got an email for the morning workshop explaining everything. All good, thank you! I really appreciate how much work goes into all of this.
Anxiously waiting for my email!
I know it's a bit early for feedback, but as it's on my mind, and I'm not sure if I will be able to give post-event feedback, I would like to offer some thoughts now on how the process might be improved:
- Implement lottery to determine priority groups for signing up for workshops - the process now requires the attendee to spend time reviewing every workshop option and deciding their top 2 for morning/afternoon, when there is a good probability of not getting into them if they selected popular workshops. I think it would be better to let people to sign up in phases, where they can see what is available. If top two are unavailable, they may still select 3rd or 4th choice rather than having to wait until the open period when most workshops will be filled. Basically, same as last year, but with priority based on lottery.
- Limit one workshop per participant in the initial/closed sign-ups, assuming the goal is to make the workshops available to more people. People can sign up for another workshop if there's availability during general sale.
- Some slots saved for certain groups, like first-timers or locals? Who do you want to encourage to attend?
Forgive my presumptions here, just wanted to give my thoughts. I know the organizers have given this thought and I thank you for your careful consideration. I hope the system can be even better next year!
