Catch the Light with Watercolor

In this workshop I will show you how to capture light and shadows with watercolor to make the pages of your travel sketchbook truly shine. We will start by learning how to break down the essential elements of a scene and how to arrange them on the page to make a dynamic composition. I will show you examples from my sketchbooks and demonstrate the techniques I use to create contrasting and luminous sketches. The key points of the session will be choosing an interesting viewpoint, framing the scene and capturing shadows to create light.

  • A watercolor kit
  • One or two watercolor brushes
  • A board if you paint on sheets
