Sketching Stories One Panel at a Time

This workshop will explore storytelling using compositions of sequential panels. You will learn how to break down everyday moments into compelling visual narratives. Through timed, monochromatic sketches, you’ll practice capturing the world around you quickly. We’ll explore techniques for adding text, captions and even word balloons to enhance storytelling and capture the feeling a location and/or activity exudes. In addition, we will discuss strategies for sketching people in action and telling engaging stories effectively through layout and composition.

Supplies

  • Sketchbook
  • Pen of choice
  • Water brush
  • Watercolor for quick wash (QoR Paynes Gray recommended)
  • Paper towel
